Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach - All Inclusive

I love exploring new places and my recent trip to Cabo San Lucas did not disappoint! We decided to take our kids to Cabo for Spring Break this year. This was a last minute decision so most hotels were sold out. We were able to book a room at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and headed off for our four-night stay.
Arriving at the airport in Cabo (SJD) was incredibly easy, and we were quickly greeted by our driver. We drove along the coastline to our hotel, dropped our bags, and headed to lunch while we waited for our room to be ready.
Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach has three other properties in Cabo that guests can visit. We did not visit Pueblo Bonito Pacifica because it is adults only (and we had our kids with us). Sunset Beach is the largest of the 4 and has the most dining options. We did visit the Rosé and Los Cabos resorts. I’ll talk more about them later!
We opted for lunch at The Bistro, which is the 24-hour restaurant on the property. It had the standard fare: burgers, quesadillas, chile rellenos, etc. We started with the guacamole (delicious) and then ventured onto Oaxacan Style Chicken Mole and Green Pipian Chicken Enchiladas (both also delicious). The best part? The restaurant had HUGE picture windows and we were able to see the whales playing in the ocean from our table!
We checked into our room and explored the resort a bit more. This resort is built on a cliff-side so the roads are narrow, sometimes without walkways. They do a great job of having plenty of golf carts to pick you up on demand throughout the resort. We did walk as much as possible (and just moved out of the way if the golf carts were on the road).
For dinner, we went to the Japanese restaurant, Tazuna, on the property and enjoyed tons of sushi. This was, by far, the best meal of the trip. Everything was fresh and tasty! We sampled several different sushi rolls and the girls enjoyed chicken teriyaki (and tempura ice cream for dessert).
The next morning, we ate breakfast at the buffet, La Nao, which was close to our room and located near the main pool. We were able to secure loungers by the pool (with an umbrella!) and the girls enjoyed the pool. After a few hours, we were ready for lunch so we headed to the Market at Quivira. The Market is like a fancy food court. We took a golf cart there, but decided on subsequent trips that walking was feasible. There are several different options available at the Market, but not all are open at the same time. In addition to a full-service restaurant at the Market (an American-style 1950s diner), they have Mexican food, Italian food, a coffee bar, Asian food, sandwiches/healthy food, and more! We all had Mexican food for lunch and each dish was spectacular! We then had gelato for a mid-afternoon dessert.
We opted to visit the sister resort, Pueblo Bonito Rosé, for dinner. At the Rosé, they have a few different restaurants, including a buffet, Mexican food, and an Italian restaurant. We decided to try the Italian restaurant, which did have a cover charge of around $20 per person. It was totally worth it. The girls had lasagna and fettuccine alfredo, my husband enjoyed the lamb osso buco, and I loved the beef saltimbocca. We sampled each other’s dishes and each one was great! Definitely worth the upcharge, and definitely will go back!
The third day, we ventured back to the Rosé resort so we could enjoy the beach. Because of strong rip currents, not all beaches in Cabo permit ocean use. Because the Rosé is on a different side of town (but only about 15 minutes from Sunset Beach) we could use the beach there. We were able to secure lounge chairs and umbrellas again and had a great time relaxing. We also walked around the Los Cabos resort - which was lovely but very overrun with spring breakers, so we didn’t stay too long. We had a snack at the buffet before returning to Sunset Beach to clean up for dinner.
Our last day started at the family pool (which still had a swim-up bar) and went back to the Market for lunch. That evening, we ventured into town for dinner at La Pintada. Our next door neighbors happened to be in Cabo at the same time as us so we met up for dinner. Everything was tasty and authentic.
You’ll notice that I have a lack of pictures of the food we ate during this trip and there’s a simple explanation for it: everything looked so amazing as it was set down on the table, I didn’t have time to take any photos before everyone dug in!
The Rooms: Let’s start with the positives: we had a junior suite, which had plenty of space and was very clean. Most rooms on the property have ocean views and our room was no exception. We all enjoyed sitting on the terrace and watching the ocean. We never heard any of our neighbors (and we were there during spring break, so that’s saying something!) The negatives: the rooms at Sunset Beach are really dated and in need of repair. Our room had door stops missing, rusted ironwork around the terrace, etc. There is no mini-bar, but you do have a decent size fridge and room service brought up bottles of water as we requested so we could keep it stocked. The beds were not comfortable and were in need of some kind of mattress pad or something! The pillows were also very thin but we called down to housekeeping and they brought us some tempurpedic-style pillows (which made a huge difference).
I got to peek inside of a room at the Rosé and those rooms looked more updated.
Would I go back to Pueblo Bonito? Absolutely! The fact that you can use several resorts as part of your all-inclusive fare is so great; if you get bored, you can have a change of scenery! The food was FABULOUS at every restaurant and service was great. The pools were awesome - even on the chilly days, and so was the beach at the Rosé. At the pools and the beach, there were plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas to use (for free)! As someone who sunburns easily, I cannot tell you how much I value getting an umbrella in the sun.
